Week 8 Buy Lows

smitty staff

There are still a good number of solid Buy Low Candidates heading into Week 8 of the fantasy season. If in need of a roster change, consider buying these guys low and mixing things up!

Todd Gurley

The Rams rusher is not playing like a top 1-3 overall pick, and most drafted him there. He isn’t even playing like a RB1 in fantasy, which is crazy to accept. If you need a spark to make your playoffs, or were hit by injury and want to beef up for your playoff run, consider selling a player scoring big and get Gurley and some in return. I’ve seen people trade players that would rank in the 18-25 range overall if drafting today for Gurley. That’s a good bet.

DeAndre Hopkins

He’s been on this list for a while, and that’s because he keeps struggling. It’s not him, it’s his QB situation. Keep in mind this might not be a problem easily resolved this year, so there is risk. But, he could very easily bounce back and be a top 1-4WR moving forward, and in many situations, that’s a risk worth taking. Buy-low, though!!!!

Amari Cooper

The guy likely ranks somewhere in the 9-11 range for all WRs in your league, yet many are complaining as if he is so far off of expectations. Folks, he could have one single huge game this week and be back in the top 5 WRs in your league year to date. Buy-low, this thinking that he is a big fat disappointment should be taken advantage of in all leagues!

Allen Robinson

I know, if you own him, you can’t get rid of him. Well, that’s why I write this. If someone else owns him in your league, they might part with him at high-end WR3-type value, or trade a strong flex for him. That’s a great risk worth taking.

Week 8 Waiver Wire

smitty staff

Ok, before I list the Top Week 8 Waiver Wire Adds, let me start off by saying that make sure last week’s top adds aren’t still available. If so, you could likely miss out, as these three players will get snagged right out of the gate: Jacquizz Rodgers, Jay Ajayi, Ty Montgomery (and even Knile Davis)… Rodgers just ran for his second-straight 100-yard game and looks like a strong RB2 for the moment. Congrats to those who grabbed him two weeks ago as we advised. Also, congrats to those who grabbed Ajayi last week, again as advised… Ajayi just rushed for his second-straight 200-yard game, something that only a couple running backs have ever done in the history of the game. As for Ty Montgomery, he looks like a ‘slash’ type player that will get a handful of runs and 5+ receptions per game each and every week. Green Bay is going to use him all over the field due to Eddie Lacy’s injury.

Davante Adams (GB/WR) – In Week 7, the guy pulled in 13 receptions for 132 yards and 2TDs. Temper expectations a bit heading into Week 8, but he is a fine WR3 until he proves otherwise!

Devontae Booker (DEN/RB) – Things could change fast after the Monday night game, and we told everyone to grab him last week, so hopefully you already own him. If he gets a huge workload today (Monday night game), he will be the first player added heading into this week’s waiver process. If for some reason he doesn’t make noise and the team sticks with CJ Anderson for the most part, still grab Booker, as I believe his time is coming.

Tyrell Williams (SD/WR) – His last three outings: 5/117/1TD, 3/28/0TDs and 7/140/0TDs. Grab him as a WR3/4 moving forward!

Jamison Crowder (WAS/WR) – His last two games: 3/52/1TD and 7/108/0TDs.

Chris Thompson/Rob Kelley (WAS/RB) – After two fumbles by Matt Jones in Week 7, it’s time to look ahead and anticipate a change. Kelley would be the guy that goes nuts if starting, but the team could turn to Thompson first, so both are players to grab if you have the spots to burn.

Jack Doyle (IND/TE) – Could be a strong low-end TE1 for those looking for a cheap one.

Brandon LaFell (CIN/WR) – Solid WR4/5 type player if you need one!

Week 8 Live News Wire (All Sunday Morning)

smitty staff

Below is our running Sunday morning live Week 8 Breaking News Wire. Check back all morning long, and good luck in Week 8!

NEWS: Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) is active for Week 8 against Cincy.

FANTASY: He is a top 5 fantasy QB right away, and Antonio Brown instantly returns to the top 1-3 fantasy WRs moving forward. And, expect both Martavis Bryant and LeVeon Bell to see bumps this week. When that offese is clicking, everyone becomes hard to key on defensively. Note: We just updated the Analyzers with a touch more points for all these guys now that Big Ben playing is official. Re-run your Lineup Analyzer.

NEWS: 49ers WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring) is inactive for Week 8 against the Rams.

FANTASY: Get him out of lineups.

NEWS: Browns QB Josh McCown (shoulder) is active for Week 8 against Arizona; John Brown, as expected, is active for Week 8.

FANTASY: This is good news for Travis Benjamin and Gary Barnidge. Having McCown back there is critical for both players, and since McCown is under center, both are must starts despite the matchup.

NEWS: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is active for Week 8 against Chicago.

FANTASY: He should have a big, big game against that Bears rushing defense.

NEWS: Chargers TE Antonio Gates (knee) is officially active for Week 8 at the Ravens.

FANTASY: It’s hard to sit him, but some risk is present here.

NEWS: ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that WR Vincent Jackson (knee) and TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (shoulder) will both be inactive for Week 8 at Atlanta.

FANTASY: Mike Evans and Donteea Dye will lead the way as far as the receivers go. Evans could see a huge amount of targets in this one.

NEWS: Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is fully expected to start Week 8.

FANTASY: We expect a nice little game out of Hillman on Sunday night against the Packers.

NEWS: Cardinals WR John Brown (hamstring) is now looking more likely to play Week 8 than not play.

FANTASY: It looks like we will know during pregame warmups, but it might take a setback for this to trend back in the wrong direction, which is great for John Brown owners.

NEWS: According to reports, Chargers TE Antonio Gates will attempt to run prior to kickoff to see if he can give Week 8 a go.

FANTASY: This is going to be a true game-time call, maybe before one can even make the change, but stay close to your Smart Alerts and this news wire if you plan to roll Gates out there this week.

NEWS: 49ers RB Reggie Bush is expected to start Week 8; Carlos Hyde (foot) is out for Week 8.

FANTASY: Hopefully Hyde can get healthy fast. Bush is a decent pickup and start if hurting at your flex spot in Week 8.

NEWS: According to several sources, all signs “point” to Dez Bryant (questionable, foot) playing Week 8 on Sunday.

FANTASY: It’s hard to imagine anyone sitting him, even if forcing him into a WR3 or flex spot this week, but if you have a deep roster, bring your dilemmas to the forum!

SUNDAY NEWS: Live Feed All Day Long (Week 8)

This Week 8 Sunday News topic will be updated all Sunday long!!!

News: 10/26 According to NFL Newtwork’s Stacey Dales, AJ Green will “NOT” play in Week 8, although he is “very close.” She also tweeted this: “I’m told 70-30” for Week 9.
Take: We will keep you posted all next week, and be sure to be signed up for our Smart Alerts.

News: 10/26 According to the Bills on Twitter, Anthony Dixon will start Week 8 against NYJ.
Take: Don’t be surprised if either Dixon or Bryce Brown lead the team in carries this week. Most all of us knew that Jerick McKinnon should have been starting for MIN over Asiata, yet it took MIN a while to turn to McKinnon. Brown is the better back, but that doesn’t mean it will all translate right away. Both Dixon and Brown have equal parts ‘upside’ and ‘risk’ entering Week 8.

News: 10/26 Lorenzo Taliaferro is reportedly going to get some goal-line in Week 8 now that Bernard Pierce is a healthy scratch.
Take: He is a play for those desperate with injuries, but that’s about it. For now. This is Forsett’s team right now, at least in terms of the running back production.

News: 10/26 Bishop Sankey is expected to start Week 8 game against HOU.
Take: Shonn Greene (hamstring) is active, though, despite his recent arrest, but Sankey should have a nice outing in Week 8!

News: 10/26 Vincent Jackson is active for Week 8 against MIN.
Take: He is a strong WR3 or even low-end WR2 whenever on the field. Also, there are some rumors that teams like the Eagles, Patriots, and Seahawks are calling Tampa Bay about the receiver. We will keep you updated on this as news develops heading into Tuesday’s trade deadline.

News: 10/26 Storm Johnson is a healthy scratch for Week 8 against MIA.
Take: Gerhart is back, but D-Robinson should be the primary ball carrier in this one.

News: 10/26 Shane Vereen (illness) is active for Week 8 against CHI.
Take: He is a fine flex/RB3 this week, and solid low-end RB2 in larger leagues.

News: 10/26 Bernard Pierce is a healthy scratch for Week 8 against CIN.
Take: It should be the Justin Forsett Show in Week 8. The runner is a low-end RB2, or fine flex-play, this week, no question.

News: 10/26 ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is predicting that Darren Sproles (knee) will be inactive against AZ.
Take: Great news for LeSean McCoy owners. Sproles owners better get the little guy out of line-ups!

News: 10/26 Giovani Bernard is active for Week 8 against BAL.
Take: As expected… We still love Gio moving forward. He has RB1 dynasty upside, no doubt!

News: 10/26 Eric Decker (hamstring) is active for Week 8 against BUF.
Take: He is a WR3 this week.

News: 10/26 According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Seahawks have “grown tired” of Marshawn Lynch’s “ways,” and the rusher is not expected back in 2015.
Take: This is exactly what Christine Michael owners wanted to hear, although, it would be nice to see the Seahawks showcase the runner a touch in order to give him a sense of ‘upside’ for next season. It’s only Week 8, so there is still a ton of time to see Michael get some run, and all it will take is a week or two, even if it’s just a string of change-of-pace work. Somehow, though, these runners (in these situations) find ways to start Week 16 and 17, so we shall see there… We, Michael supporters, all knew there was a chance we’d see very little from Michael this season, making his big ‘potential’ season in 2015. We also knew that there was some risk in counting on Michael as a future stud, but no one should have invested at a high price. Michael has MONSTER upside, we just hope he gets a fair shot to start in Seattle in 2015, and things seem to be heading in that direction – for now

News: 10/26 The Colts are reportedly “leaning toward sitting” Trent Richardson (hamstring) for Week 8 against PIT.
Take: It’s going to be the Ahmad Bradshaw Show in Week 8, something that was likely regardless of T-Rich’s status.

News: 10/26 UPDATE: Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush and Eric Ebron are officially inactive for Week 8 in London.
News: 10/26 Calvin Johnson is not expected to play in Week 8; Reggie Bush is doubtful with an ankle injury.
Take: The thinking here is that with the Lions having a Week 9 bye, Calvin Johnson will have two weeks to rest up if the team sits him in London. This particular game kicks off at 9:30am EST, which gives fantasy owners a jump on making any kind of decision should things change. For now, though, Calvin Johnson is fully expected to sit, and Bush is also likely out. This makes both Golden Tate and Joique Bell fine plays in Week 8!

News: 10/26 AJ Green, according to the NFL Network and other sources, will not play in Week 8 against BAL due to his toe.
Take: Stay all over both our News Wire and our Smart Alerts in case something changes, but we are not expecting Green to play in this one.

News: 10/26 Dez Bryant (shoulder) is probable for Week 8 against WAS; Tony Romo (ribs) is probable.
Take: The receiver is a top 1-4WR play this week, and arguably a top 1-2 overall WR moving forward.

News: 10/26 Percy Harvin is expected to be the Jets’ downfield threat.
Take: It’s tough to say if that will happen this week, as a lot of sources seem cautiously-optimistic about his Week 8 usage. Harvin is the definition of a risky play this week, but could develop into a strong fantasy WR3/flex down the stretch in the coming weeks. If you have a start/sit dilemma that involves Harvin this week, jump on our Forums and get some different takes on the decision!

News: 10/26 Jonas Gray is being called the team’s “big back” heading into this week.
Take: He is a super-high risk play this week, but it wouldn’t be crazy to see him get a TD, and some unexpected usage. That said, it wouldn’t be crazy to see him have zero impact. That’s New England for you. Shane Vereen is a decent fantasy RB2 play this week and “should” get some serious usage in this one. The “should” comes into play because he has been iffy all week with an illness, but most all sources around expect him to roll in this one. Stay on our Smart Alerts just in case news breaks suggesting he could sit.

News: 10/26 Both Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson are ‘out’ for Week 8.
Take: This makes Mark Ingram a very good play in this one, and it also makes Travaris Cadet a sneaky-good RB3/flex play, especially in PPR formats.

News: 10/26 Marquise Goodwin (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 8.
Take: Expect to see a whole lot of Sammy Watkins in this one. The rookie could be a strong fantasy WR2-type play the rest of the way in 2014.

News: 10/26 John Brown (ankle) and Andre Ellington (foot) are both probable for Week 8 against the Eagles.
Take: While Ellington is a must-play, and a top 10RB play at that, John Brown is too hit-and-miss to count on, not unless you are in a super-deep league. He has a bright future, though, and will show flashes of brilliance along the way.

News: 10/26 Martellus Bennett (hamstring) is probable for Week 8.
Take: He is a go and a fine play this week.

News: 10/26 Andre Johnson (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 8.
Take: He is a must-play despite the ankle injury.

News: 10/26 Jimmy Graham (shoulder) is questionable for Week 8.
Take: Unless he suffers a setback in warm-ups, or has and no one is reporting on it yet, he is fully expected to play. Last week he didn’t catch a pass despite playing a decent amount, so there is risk in playing the tight end. However, whenever Jimmy Graham is playing, you almost have to start him. He could play 10 snaps in red zone situations and still catch 2TDs. Stay tuned to both our News Wire and our Smart Alerts in case something changes or develops.

News: 10/26 Travis Kelce (ribs) is probable for Week 8.
Take: Stay on top of our Smart Alerts, but he appears to be a go and is a must-play.
