Buy-Low/Sell-High: Hyped-Up Players?

Our friends over at FantasyPros invited us to participate in an Expert Fantasy Football Panel, where we were asked the two below questions. My answers are below. If you would like to read the entire article, see the link that follows my two answers!

Q1. Who is one player performing well in the preseason that has you buying the hype? How early would you target him in drafts?

Steve Smith Sr. (WR – BAL)/Martavis Bryant (WR – PIT)

“I have two picks that are equally attractive. Steve Smith Sr., who has an 8th-round ADP right now, and the other is Martavis Bryant, who has 7th-round value right now. Smith looks just as quick as last year and could dance with all fantasy WR2s all year long. He is a secret weapon of a fantasy WR3 this year! And, if he doesn’t perform … Keep Reading

Preseason: Week 3 Fantasy Observations

Let me start off by saying, it’s always smart to never overreact in either direction, good or bad, to preseason play. That said, it doesn’t hurt to draw some conclusions, or at least try, as you can sometimes try and read between noise.

Some Observations In Week 3 Of The 2015 NFL Preseason

Martavis Bryant is still a stud despite being suspended for four games

Yes, his 138 yards and a TD, and some dominate looking play all in all, reminds us all that he could be back to being a breakout performer five weeks into the season. Watch his 39-yard TD reception and this 36-yard reception… he looks like he is playing college defenders. Don’t sleep on his falling redraft value in upcoming yearly league drafts, and don’t hesitate to buy-low in already-drafted leagues, or in dynasty.

Steve Smith Sr. has NOT dropped off yet talent-wise?

Could that change halfway through the season? I guess it could, and he is 36 (this past May), but the dude looks insane – still. In the third preseason game… Read Entire Article

Hey STARTERS Nation:

Of course, we have our Draft Analyzer here at STARTERS, which cranks out custom cheat sheets using an industry-leading predictive algorithm. However, I also provide my personal redraft and dynasty rankings outside of the Analyzer rankings, just to give all you fantasy fanatics another list to look at. Use them all, you can never get enough info to mix together! Below are both the updated dynasty and redraft links!

NOTE: Due to endless requests for it, I have added a tiering system to both sets of rankings!

Redraft Rankings Dynasty Rankings

NEWS: Julian Edelman (concussion) active for Divisional Round game against BAL; Jonas Gray inactive.

SMITTY: Julian Edelman is probable and should lead the team in yards, receptions, and targets, however, Brandon LaFell, as usual, holds a lot of sleeper appeal. A whole lot of Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski is expected in this game. LeGarrette Blount will be a boom or bust fantasy play, something that could easily be said about him a couple weeks ago in leagues where you pick players once for the entire stretch of the playoffs. He could be a beast for multiple games, or he could do nothing in this game and the Ravens could win. That’s just how these things go, but if you want to go big or go home, Blount fits the bill. Justin Forsett should be a solid low-end RB1 play in playoff formats, and both Torrey Smith and Steve Smith have 70-100 yard upside, with one of the two being a strong bet to score. While I cringe at all the “Joe Flacco is elite” talk that floats around the main-stream sports media these days, he is a solid playoff quarterback and should have a steady outing in this one. NEWS: Khiry Robinson, Robert Meachem inactive in Week 12 Monday Night against Ravens.

SMITTY: We hope to see a whole lot of Mark Ingram in this game. While he wasn’t dirt cheap coming off a 67-yard outing last week, he was a great buy-low attempt heading into this one. Ravens WR Steve Smith was also a great buy-low all week — we expect him to rebound in Week 12. If he doesn’t, consider buying low heading into Week 13. Justin Forsett should continue his successful season tonight and is a fantastic RB2 play, and with Meachem out and Cooks out, Marques Colston and Kenny Stills both return to fantasy relevance. Good luck to those with players going tonight!

NEWS: Owen Daniels pulls in 2TDs in Week 2; Bernard Pierce and LeVeon Bell play solid.

In Thursday night’s Week 2 contest between the Ravens and the Steelers, TE Owen Daniels pulled in 5 passes for 28 yards and 2TDs, WR Steve Smith pulled in 6 passes for 71 yards and Dennis Pitta pulled in 3 passes for 30 yards. Bernard Pierce ran 22 times for 56 yards, while Justin Forset ran the ball 8 times for 56 yards (and added 4 receptions for 16 yards). On the Steelers side of the football, Le’Veon Bell ran the ball 11 times for 59 yards and pulled in 5 passes for 48 yards; Antonio Brown pulled in 7 balls for 90 yards despite leaving for almost a quarter with a head injury.

SMITTY: The important takeaways from this game are: First, Le’Veon Bell looks fantastic. He is speedy, shifty, he doesn’t look like the same rusher that we saw last year… he could be in for a big 2014. Second, Steve Smith isn’t done yet and is in a unique situation to produce for one more season. Will he be a fantasy WR2? I’d say probably not, but he has solid fantasy WR3 upside this year, he really does. Be sure to sign-up for our Smart Alerts, especially to keep tabs on players like Antonio Brown (head), who left this game for a bit to go through some concussion protocols. He appears fine, but our Smart Alerts are where it’s at to get all kinds of updates all week long!
