SMITTY: While Kirk Cousins’ failure to hold onto the job virtually locks Robert Griffin III as the team’s starter just as soon as he is ready (most think Week 9), Colt McCoy is a lot better than people give him credit for. I’m not suggesting he will hold off RG3 with a good game here, but I think a surprising outing shouldn’t be ruled out is all, which is good for those Redskins receivers and tight ends. Also, on a side note, all you deep league owners should take a long look at adding Roy Helu. I like the runner a lot, and he is a PPR type that would thrive if given the carries. Morris is banged up and Helu just feels “stash” worthy. Keep up-to-date with all the latest news with our Smart Alerts
According to washingtontimes.com, the Redskins will “incorporate more power concepts” under new coach Jay Gruden, something that could help RB Alfred Morris.
SMITTY: While Roy Helu really digs into Alfred Morris’ PPR value, he is very underrated in non-PPR formats heading into 2014. Morris piled up 1,613 yards and 13TDS on 335 carries as a rookie in 2012, but then dropped those totals to 1,275 yards and 7TDs on 276 attempts in 2013. The thing people won’t notice at a glance is that his yards-per-carry actually went up from 4.6 to 4.8, he just didn’t get the carries. Looking for where we rank Alfred Morris for Week 1?
According to Pro Football Focus, Redskins RB Roy Helu rated top-five for running backs in pass protection in two of his first three seasons in the NFL.
SMITTY: Alfred Morris owners need to ensure that they handcuff these two rushers, as Roy Helu could be a very underrated fantasy scorer if forced to start for the Redskins in 2014. Looking for Week 1 Power Rankings?
