NEWS: Percy Harvin traded to the Jets for a conditional pick.

SMITTY: This is a strange trade for the Jets. First, Harvin (thigh) is banged up. Second, the Jets are 1-6. As for the Seahawks, they free up a lot with this move, and they have some resigning to do next off-season (Russell Wilson and possibly Marshawn Lynch). Freeing up cash isn’t something Christine Michael owners were hoping for, but so many things can happen at the running back position by next off-season, that’s something we will have to attack down the road (for all you dynasty folks out there). This gives big bumps to both Paul Richardson and Jermaine Kearse (in both dynasty and redraft), and despite Harvin having just one 50+ yard outing this year, this has to hurt the 2014 value of Russell Wilson, if even just a little bit. Harvin may not have a huge stat line through Week 6, but he commands a ton of defensive attention, and he had 3TDs called back in one game… he is stretching the field and creating all kinds of chaos for opposing defenses. Do we like Harvin in New York? No. I’m not sure any fantasy players can be consistent in a Jets’ uniform (at least this year). This move has to help Geno Smith, but not enough to be anything close to a fantasy QB1. Looking for Week 7 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Marshawn Lynch was back practicing in full on Thursday.

SMITTY: Marshawn Lynch appears in no danger of missing Week 3 — He is a top 4-7RB play in Week 3. All Beast Mode owners should own his back-ups (Robert Turbin and Christine Michael, or at least one if in a smaller league), as Lynch is one of the most aggressive rushers in the league, and he has a ton of milage. He could make it through the entire season, sure, but planning ahead is smart given the mileage and aggressive style (mixed with the back issues). Looking for Week 3 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Marshawn Lynch (back) did not practice on Wednesday.

SMITTY: We have said this a thousand different ways and will continue to say it… Marshawn Lynch is a top 5-10RB when he is on the field, and he might very well start all 16 games this season. That said, he is one of the most aggressive rushers in the league, abusing his body on every carry more so than any other runner in the league. If he goes down, Robert Turbin could be called upon first, that won’t be a huge surprise, but both he and Christine Michael (top 5-10RB-capable if starting) should be owned by even non-Lynch owners in all larger leagues. If you own Lynch, you have to own these guys, or at least one. As for Week 3, we haven’t heard anything that suggests that Lynch’s back is going to keep him out of Week 3, but keep an eye on this, and sign up for our Smart Alerts in case this situation changes. NEWS: Marshawn Lynch will let it rip on Thursday night against the Packers?

According to usatoday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll expects that RB Marshawn Lynch will “let it rip” in Thursday night’s opener against the Packers.

SMITTY: Regardless of our support and belief in Christine Michael entering next off-season, Marshawn Lynch is still a RB1 heading into 2014, and it wouldn’t be shocking at all if he had a top 5-7RB season in 2014 (with that kind of production starting tonight). NEWS: Marshawn Lynch cleared of any wrongdoing relating to recent assault accusations.

According to multiple rotoworld, Bellevue police have released a statement clearing Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch of any wrongdoing relating to the recent investigation into assault and personal property damage accusations.

SMITTY: This is solid news for Christine Michael is a must-own for all Lynch owners this year. As I keep saying, there is no better “go get” player in dynasty than Christine Michael right now, as I fully expect him to be starting in Seattle in 2015 (assuming he stays healthy). We still have solid 2014 projections for Marshawn Lynch despite our obsession with trading for and owning Michael.

NEWS: Marshawn Lynch assault and property damage accusations are bogus?

According to rotoworld, the Seahawks, on Tuesday, released a statement saying that they believe the assault and property damage accusations against RB Marshawn Lynch are “bogus.”

SMITTY: For now, it sounds like Marshawn Lynch owners can relax a bit on this one. Lynch is still a top 6-10 fantasy running back in yearly-league formats, but his dynasty value is a bit cloudy, as we imagine only a flop-like season, or injury, to Christine Michael will have the Seahawks not cutting the veteran next off-season. Michael remains my favorite “go get” dynasty prospect in all of fantasy football (yes, even with the increased dynasty value as of late).

NEWS: Marshawn Lynch investigated in alleged assault incident

According to seattlepi.com, Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch is reportedly being investigated in an alleged assault with property damage.

SMITTY: While the details are far from ironed out, this can’t be what Marshawn Lynch dynasty owners want to hear, as the veteran is fighting to prove that he shouldn’t be a 2015 release candidate. According to police, the “alleged incident” took place early Sunday morning, but with “no domestic violence or sexual assault” — The Bellevue Police Department is still gathering up the facts of the incident, which includes finding out if Lynch was in fact involved. A statement reads: “No arrests have been made. There is no further information available at this time.” We will keep you posted. This could be nothing (put your arms down Christine Michael owners – at least for now), or it might be significant, we won’t know until more information is released.

NEWS: Christine Michael scores in preseason opener; Lynch set to be a top 10RB in 2014?

Christine Michael came off the bench during Seattle’s preseason opener against Denver; he ran the ball seven times for 16 yards and a touchdown, and pulled in three passes for 12 yards.

SMITTY: Christine Michael’s numbers don’t standout much on paper, but he looked solid on his touchdown run and he looked great on an eight-yard gain. As we reported all through Marshawn Lynch’s holdout, we expected Lynch to be back well before Week 1, which is obviously the case now. No one should have been expecting Michael to start Week 1, or even start a game this season. The hope was, for Michael supporters, that the holdout would last long enough for Michael to make a case for needing more carries right out of the gate in 2014. While he can still do that with strong preseason play, he is, and was, more of a sneaky-good redraft secret weapon heading into Week 1 — He’d likely be a top 5-10RB per-start if his number is called, though. That’s what makes him a secret weapon in redraft. His true value is in dynasty/keeper, as there is decent chance that the Seahawks cut Lynch next off-season and turn the keys over to Michael. Anything can happen, though, as next off-season is a long way away; Michael is still one my very favorite dynasty ‘go get’ players, and Lynch ending his holdout so quickly might lower Michael’s trade value! Marshawn Lynch remains a top 10 fantasy running back heading into Week 1, and Michael is the absolute must-own handuff!
