NEWS: TY Hilton now looking like a better shot to play Week 17?

SMITTY: This is tipping back in the right direction for TY Hilton owners, as he was looking very iffy to play Week 17 earlier in the week. Still, you have to wonder how much he will play, or for how long. The Colts have made it clear that they won’t bench their starters in Week 17, as they want to gain some confidence heading into the playoffs, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the starters will play the entire game either. It’s risky playing Week 17 in fantasy football, that’s why we recommend all leagues have their fantasy championship in Week 16. However, we are here to support all leagues and types, but just know that Hilton is almost impossible to sit as a fantasy wR2 if playing, but comes with risk. Also, if you need a WR3 or WR4, Donte Moncrief remains a high-risk/super-high-reward play in Week 17 (even after last week’s huge letdown, which was not Moncrief’s fault). NEWS: Dwayne Allen trending to sit Week 17; Coby Fleener a sleeper start of the week at TE?

SMITTY: Nothing is official, but it’s looking like Dwayne Allen is trending to sit Week 17, which would make Coby Fleener a very solid TE play in Week 17. The thinking here is that the Colts will look to get Allen healthy for the playoff battle, and it’s logical. Stay tuned, this could certainly change, but even if he plays, he could play a little, so regardless Fleener is a nice play in a week where big name players aren’t necessarily a lock to produce. While on the topic of the Colts, TY Hilton is back at practice and looking more likely to play Week 17; however, he could play a little or a lot, that’s a risky thing to predict given the Colts will also want to rest Hilton for the playoffs. While he burned many fantasy owners last week (not his fault given how Luck played in Week 16), Donte Moncrief has strong fantasy WR3-type appeal heading into Week 17. Stay tuned on both of these guys! Looking for Week 17 Power Rankings?

NEWS: TY Hilton (hamstring) very questionable for Week 16.

SMITTY: He was thought to be near 50/50 according to some sources, but others, including Colts ESPN reporter Mike Wells, feel it would be a bit of a shock to see Hilton on the field given the Colts have already locked up the AFC South. Anything can happen though, so stay on both our news and Smart Alerts on this one. If he does sit, Donte Moncrief has all kinds of sneakiness to him heading into Week 16. NEWS: Rashad Jennings will not play tonight; Andre Williams to start 2 more weeks?

SMITTY: It sounds like the team is just hopeful that Rashad Jennings will return for Week 11, so he could be out longer than expected. This makes Andre Williams an excellent low-end RB2 for at least two more weeks. A-Williams will start against the Colts tonight and he should have a strong outing just as long as the Giants can keep it close for at least a couple quarters. Expect Andrew Luck, TY Hilton, Ahmad Bradshaw, Dwayne Allen and Donte Moncrief to all have strong performances tonight — Luck is always 3TD-capable. Odell Beckham has the most appeal of those Giants WRs this week.

Article: 2014 Rookie Rankings & Analysis

smitty staffIt’s late July, so it’s time to reevaluate the 2014 Fantasy Football Rookies. 5. Jordan Matthews | PHI WR

Date: 7/24/14

This 2014 rookie receiving class is just flat-out phenomenal, as we are talking about the 4th receiver ranked, and this receiver can be a fantasy WR1 if he develops properly. Jordan Matthews is 6-3, 212 pounds, but he plays like he is 6-5, 225 pounds. He has a long reach and has phenomenal spacial awareness. View this exact play right here to see what I mean… if you watched that play, you should have noticed not only Matthews’ timing pulling in the reception, but his innate ability to use his body to defend the area around the football. It’s an instinct most players don’t develop until their second or third NFL season, but Matthews has a natural instinct to use his body to position the defender where he wants the defender. It’s masterful if you take the time to watch him in acton. Like Brandin Cooks, Matthews couldn’t have landed in a more potent offense. And, in Matthews’ case, the Eagles are in need of a big-time possession receiver, and it appears Chip Kelly is going to immediately lean on the rookie. Don’t be surprised if Matthews makes a strong case for Rookie of the Year in 2014! It wouldn’t be shocking if the guy pulled in 55-60 receptions for 900-1000 yards and 6-7 scores as a rookie. The rookie receiver position is changing, and these guys are maturing much faster than they use to.

NEWS: Donte Moncrief has freakish athleticism?

According to, Colts WR Donte Moncief has “freakish athleticism” at 6-2, 221 pounds.

SMITTY: I love Donte Moncrief’s upside. He has size (6-2, 221 pounds) and speed (with a 40-time between 4.35-4.40). He could start out slow in terms of production, given he has a grip of decent receivers sitting in front of him, but none have his long-term ceiling. TY Hilton has nice upside for the now and the future, but he is more of high-end fantasy WR3 that can dance with WR2s on frequent occasions. That’s no knock on him, I’m a huge fan and supporter, and he is super-underrated right now (recent article). Moncrief just has that fantasy WR1-type ability, speed and size… while the team currently looks crowded at the position, Reggie Wayne is 35 (coming off knee surgery), Hakeem Nicks is a big talent, but he is on a one-year deal and he is super injury-prone. Da’Rick Rogers has some talent, no doubt, but his ceiling value doesn’t feel near Hilton’s, and it’s likely nowhere close to the value that Moncrief holds. Check out where we have all these Colts receivers ranked, as well as Andrew Luck (who is in for a breakout season) heading into 2014. Look for some Moncrief dynasty write-ups shortly.
