According to reports, Bucs RB Doug Martin (knee) is not considered seriously hurt.
SMITTY: His knee/leg injury is actually being called “minor” and it’s said that he could have gone back in to the game in Week 1 if he had to. This is great news for those fearing the worst here, but be sure to sign-up for our Smart Alerts so that you get alerted immediately should anything change. We are still a bit cautious with Martin’s Week 2 projections, but he remains a risky low-end RB1 heading into Weeks 2-16.
According to ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas, Bucs RB Doug Martin “is the starter” heading into 2014, but “the Bucs want to use a rotation.”
SMITTY: While this isn’t the first time we’ve heard this so far this off-season, it’s important to note that the other running backs on the roster aren’t quite as talented as Martin. Those rushers are: Charles Sims, Bobby Rainey, Mike James and Jeff Demps. Also, there are so many ways to define “rotation”. Are we talking about a 60/40 or 65/35 split? A lot of people are guessing with this continued story… I honestly cannot envision any scenario where a healthy D-Mart isn’t getting at least 60% of the running back touches this upcoming season, and that’s more than enough action to earn his sneaky-good 2.08-2.12 ADP. Now, all that said, health could be a concern (key word is “could”), so all Martin owners should keep an eye on the RB2 battle in the coming months. My money is on rookie Charles Sims — If anyone can get near Doug Martin-type production if starting, it’s Sims (often compared to a poor man’s Matt Forte. Want Dough Martin full-season projections?
