NEWS: Adrian Peterson reinstated and will play Week 3.

According to numerous reports, the Vikings have reinstated RB Adrian Peterson and he is expected to play Week 3 against the Saints.

SMITTY: The Vikes are reportedly pointing to ‘due process’ in regards to the indictment and charges of reckless/negligent injury to a child. Don’t be surprised if the NFL takes action if the Vikings won’t. I’m not suggesting that Roger Goodell will, but it’s certainly a possibility. Stay tuned, I’m sure we will be reporting on this at least a couple more times today – at least. Be sure to sign-up for our Smart Alerts in order to get real-time updates on this matter.

NEWS: Adrian Peterson to face more punishment by Vikings or NFL on Monday; Is McKinnon the solution for AP owners?

According to startribune.com, Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (deactivated for Week 2) is likely to to face more action by either the NFL or Vikings on Monday.

SMITTY: I know everyone wants to know ‘what’ the action will be, but we can only speculate at this point. What is my speculation? My thinking here is that if the NFL hands Adrian Peterson anything less than what Ray Rice was handed, which is a year-long ban, it’s going to put the NFL in a situation where it appears they are suggesting that one form of abuse is worse or more accepting than the other. I am not suggesting that the NFL feels this way, just that not handing Peterson a year-long ban with an indefinite suspension will have too many up in arms. Again, this is all speculation on my part at this point, but I think AP owners better prepare for the worst here. Anything can happen, though, and that’s why both Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata need to be picked up in most all larger leagues (and especially if you are an AP owner). Who will be the main man if Peterson is out for the long-term? My early guess, and this is early, is that Asiata, due to experience, will start off carrying the load, but McKinnon was drafted with the intention of evaluating his fit in the offense for the long-term. He is a freakish athlete that, according to rotoworld, scored a 147.5 on the SPARQ, which is one of the highest scores among all running backs over the last 16 years. SPARQ was developed by Nike and scores athleticism, and Calvin Johnson types are in the 140-150+ range. No, I am not saying he is a lock to be anything close to the next elite rusher in the NFL, but his athleticism cannot be overlooked, and that makes him clearly the better long-term option in this situation (with Asiata being possibly the best Week 2 solution). NEWS: Adrian Peterson deactivated for Week 2; Matt Asiata to start, Jerick McKinnon to see work.

According to multiple reports, Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has been deactivated for Week 2; Matt Asiata will start in his place, with Jerick McKinnon also getting work.

SMITTY: This is awful and completely unexpected. The NFL, as well as the fantasy world, continues to take hits based on off-the-field issues by players, and this one is no better than the Ray Rice situation. From a fantasy perspective, you have to expect Matt Asiata to get first crack at starting, however, Jerick McKinnon is by far the most talented of the two. McKinnon has a lot of ‘dynasty’ supporters out there, so that should tell you that his long-term value is better than Asiata’s (should this situation stretch out all season long). Anything can happen, though, and that makes both Asiata and McKinnon add-worthy in all leagues. Honestly, though, I think it’s Cordarrelle Patterson that benefits the most here, and the team could run him out of the backfield a bit more than even they expected.
