NEWS: Josh Gordon receiving criticism about being out of shape?

SMITTY: This came from Chris Mortensen on his Twitter account. Gordon also gave up some snaps to Taylor Gabriel and Travis Benjamin on Sunday in Week 14. Word is that the Browns are not pleased with his conditioning, routes or knowledge of the playbook. We wouldn’t read too much into this – yet. Keep in mind, out of shape or not, Gordon is arguably the most gifted receiver in the league, had 100 yards his first week back from suspension two weeks ago, and would have had a TD in Week 14 had Hoyer not missed a late TD strike to Gordon. Stay tuned, as we expect some Hoyer/Manziel controversy all day and week!

NEWS: Josh Gordon returns to the field for Week 12.

SMITTY: Josh Gordon is officially reinstated from his suspension. Happy Josh Gordon Week, as we are constantly saying on our forums! While it’s possible he needs to get his feet wet before dropping fantasy WR1-type numbers, don’t think for a second this insane talent can’t drop 100 yards and a TD right out of the gate. Expecting that isn’t wise, but ruling something like that out is foolish. The guy was the No. 1 WR last year in fantasy and started that season suspended, so like I said, Happy Josh Gordon Week, everyone! Looking for Week 11 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Andy Dalton & AJ Green play awful in Week 10; All three CLE rushers score a touchdown.

SMITTY: Andy Dalton was just plain awful in this one, completing just 10-of-33 passes for 86 yards, 0TDs and 3INTs. Of course, this left AJ Green (3/23/0TDs) and Mohamed Sanu 2/20/0TDs) with zero change to produce, as there was just 86 yards and 0TDs to spread around. Dalton’s bad play, mixed with horrible game planning, eliminated Jeremy Hill’s production (12 carries for 55 yards) despite his solid 4.58 yards-per-carry tonight. He had a fumble, which took him out of the game plan for a bit, but we still like Hill a lot moving forward, at least as a flex (even when Giovani Bernard returns from his hip injury). The team, and Gio himself, may look to speed along his recovery after this horrible offensive performance, but we still only feel comfortable calling Gio ‘questionable’ for Week 11. He is a great buy-low candidate right now, though, if your team can weather through another missed game should he have to sit out Week 11. As for those Browns rushers, they all scored a touchdown in this one, and the stat lines looked like: West: 94/1TD, Crowell: 41/1TD and Tate: 34/1TD… West dominated the carries with 26, something that we speculated prior to the game, but in all honesty, playing any of those Browns rushers was a gamble prior to kickoff. West looks like the clear starter moving forward, though – for now. Looking for Week 10 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Jordan Cameron (concussion) ruled out of Week 10.

SMITTY: Update: He has been ruled out officially, which means Jim Dray and Gary Barnidge will attempt to take his place. Looking for Week 10 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Jordan Cameron has good shot at playing in Week 3? Ben Tate to sit?

SMITTY: It looks like Jordan Cameron (shoulder) has a decent chance of playing in Week 3 according to Ohio.com. Keep checking back with us on this one, as it could come down to a game-time decision. For that, you’re going to want to be signed up for our Smart Alerts. Ben Tate is not expected to play, meaning Terrance West is going to get starter carries. Will he do well against that 8th-ranked Ravens rushing defense that has yet to allow a rushing touchdown? Find out what we have dialed into our Week 3 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Brian Hoyer to start Week 1; Johnny Manziel struggling with playbook.

According to multiple reports, the Browns have announced that Brian Hoyer will be the starting quarterback in Week 1.

SMITTY: I really like Brian Hoyer, but it’s a shame he won’t likely have Josh Gordon to throw the ball to. If Gordon as on the field in 2014, he’d have a real surprising season in my opinion. I think the Browns fully expect to push Manziel into the line-up at some point this year, but people shouldn’t write-off Hoyer just yet. Looking for Week 1 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Brian Hoyer taking the first-team reps.

According to reports, Browns QB Brian Hoyer took the first-team reps during Browns practice, and he reportedly looked very good.

SMITTY: Brian Hoyer was a dark horse of mine prior to the Johnny Manziel drafting; I still think he has strong sleeper appeal, as he isn’t even getting drafted, according to most ADP data; however, his ‘breakout’ ceiling was damaged beyond repair once Josh Gordon, who is trying to avoid a year-long ban via his August 1st appeal, got into trouble. It’s quite a shame Hoyer didn’t get his fair shot with one of the league’s best receivers (talent-wise). You got to think Manziel will be starting for the Browns at some point in 2014, but don’t write Hoyer off just yet. Looking for Full-Season 2014 Fantasy Football Projections?

NEWS: Josh Gordon hearing set for late July

According to profootballtalk.com, the hearing for Browns WR Josh Gordon (suspension) has been set for late July.

SMITTY: A hearing may not be needed if the NFL and the NFLPA decide on a reduced suspension. As it stands now, Josh Gordon is looking at a minimum ban of one year for his latest violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy. Some question what stage (2 or 3) Gordon was at during his recent violation, which is something that could change his length of banishment. We will keep you posted as info rolls in on the matter. For now, it looks like Jordan Cameron will enter 2014 as the favorite to lead the Browns in receptions, and he might just drop 80-90 receptions for 950-1,000 yards and 6-9 scores. His success could be tied to his passer, as Brian Hoyer might be better for Cameron than a still-learning Johnny Manziel — at least for now. Either way, Cameron is a strong fantasy TE1 and could finish inside the top 2-4 tight ends on the season. See where we have him ranked on our 2014 fantasy football cheat sheets.

NEWS: Johnny Manziel inks four-year deal; Brian Hoyer to enter camp as starter?

According to reports, Browns rookie QB Johnny Manziel inked a four-year deal with the Cleveland Browns.

SMITTY: While the Browns will give their rookie quarterback every chance to start Week 1, Hoyer will enter camp as the starter. Hoyer is a very underrated passer, but it’s a shame that he has to go into this opportunity without Josh Gordon (awaiting what looks like a year-long suspension by the NFL). It’s tough to know what to expect fantasy-wise when it comes to this offense, as Miles Austin has fantasy WR3-type appeal, but can he stay healthy? Jordan Cameron could lead the team in receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns, and Ben Tate has a chance to produce high-end RB2-type numbers… but can Tate stay healthy and prove doubters wrong? If he can, I expect a huge season out of him. If he can’t stay healthy, get ready for the Terrance West show! I really like both Tate and West, it’s too bad they both landed on the same team, as both are RB2-capable fantasy players. For projections on all these guys, run our:
