NEWS: Chris Johnson does not expect to spend much time on bench in Week 1?

According to ESPN, Jets RB Chris Johnson doesn’t expect to spend much time on the bench in Week 1. “At the end of the day, they wouldn’t have brought me in here if I wasn’t going to have a big role, if I wasn’t going to be a big part of this offense,” Johnson said Wednesday. “That’s something I’m not worried about. I’m not worried about my role and how it’s going to play out. As a free agent, they could’ve chosen a lot of different guys. They already had some guys in here that had some success. They weren’t going to bring me in here for no reason.”

SMITTY: I like Chris Johnson a lot at his late 5th- to early 6th-round ADP/value… that’s around players like DeSean Jackson, TY Hilton, Michael Crabtree… I’m not suggesting that any of those players aren’t solid, but the risk is low when it comes to CJ2K if you ask me… Looking for Chris Johnson Week 1 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Cordarrelle Patterson says he will be a top-five playmaker in 2014.

According to NFL.com, Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson believes he is in for a breakout season in 2014. “I’m going to be a top-five playmaker,” Patterson said. “I’m a playmaker, I like to make plays. Like I tell them, just get the ball in my hands I feel like I’m special with it. I just like to do special things with the ball.”

SMITTY: Cordarrelle Patterson is on most everyone’s breakout radar, however, the guy can still smash his currently-rising ADP, which has now climbed into the 4.12-5.03 range. His ADP has climbed quite a bit over the last two months, there is no denying it, but that doesn’t mean he still can’t nicely outplay it even at 4.12-5.03 value, as that’s where players like Roddy White, Chris Johnson, Trent Richardson and DeSean Jackson are being taken. A couple players below the 4.12 spot are players I like as much as Patterson, like Michael Floyd and Joique Bell, but Patterson has as much value, or more, as some players in the 3rd-round, like Reggie Bush, Vincent Jackson, Victor Cruz, and Ryan Mathews. I love VJax and Cruz this year, so I’m not predicting bust for those guys, I just feel that Patterson also belongs in that late 3rd-round range with those big names, which is fantastic news for those able to snag him in the late 4th- or early 5th-rounds. NEWS: Robert Griffin III to work with Terry Shea; RG3 to have a big 2014?

According to ESPN, Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is set to work with Terry Shea next week to get ready for training camp.

SMITTY: Robert Griffin III is extremely undervalued right now in all formats, especially dynasty. Keep in mind that RG3 once had top 12 overall appeal, given his ability to drop strong running back numbers along with his passing stats. Working with Shea will help the passers tune-up his fundamentals, and I really think the still-stud passer can return to top 5 fantasy quarterback status. Should you draft him that high? Absolutely not. Use average draft positions to your advantage, and currently he is falling into the 6.08-7.08 range, which is where you’re drafting a fantasy WR3 or one of your first bench runners. That’s steal territory with literally no risk. With Pierre Garcon coming off a fantasy WR1-type season, and with the addition of DeSean Jackson (and with Jordan Reed potentially ready to breakout into a TE1), there are grips of reasons to love RG3 heading into 2014 and beyond. Word is that Griffin (knee) is fully back to his old self!

NEWS: Jordan Reed having “eye-opening” days in minicamp.

According to ESPN 980, Redskins TE Jordan Reed had “another eye-opening day” during the team’s minicamp.

SMITTY: The key word is “another”. There are a number of middle-round sleepers emerging during camp, and Reed is definitely one of them. Reed pulled in 45 receptions for 499 yards and 3TDs last season, and he did so in just 9 games. If extrapolated, his stats would have been 80/887/5TDs on a full-season, numbers he can beat this upcoming season. Robert Griffin III could truly bounce-back in 2014, and Reed will likely be a big reason why. The addition of DeSean Jackson, to go along with the continued strong play by Pierre Garcon, will make this offense quite productive in 2014.
