NEWS: Latavius Murray (concussion) cleared for Week 14; will he be a workhorse, though?

SMITTY: He got in a limited practice on Wednesday and should get at least flex-type work in Week 14. The head-scratching part of this story is that Raiders coach Tony Sparano reportedly told Sirius XM Radio yesterday that Murray won’t be used like a workhorse rusher in Weeks 14-17. How this makes sense is beyond us, and that’s why he feels more like a flex-type option this week vs. a lock to produce RB2-type numbers. Talent is not the issue here — Oakland is. NEWS: Latavius Murray (concussion) ruled out of Week 13.

SMITTY: This is a complete bummer, as the guy had high-end RB written all over him heading into Week 13. It looks like he failed his final concussion test. It was a huge shot to the head that he took. We will keep you posted for next week, though. As for Week 13, it will be a total RBBC between Darren McFadden, Marcel Reece, and Maurice Jones-Drew. NEWS: Latavius Murray explodes for 112 yards and 2TDs on just 4 rushes, then suffers concussion.

SMITTY: He sure did look amazing on those four carries, but staying on the field has been an issue for the hidden talent. That said, most anyone would have suffered a concussion if hit helmet to helmet like Murray was on Thursday night, so this particular injury should be added to the ‘not predictable’ category. Already, with only one played game in Week 12, we’re looking at next week’s No. 1 overall pick-up. This kid has tons of dynasty appeal as well. Looking for Week 12 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Darren McFadden has edge over Maurice Jones-Drew?

According to dallasnews.com, Raiders RB Darren McFadden “has the starting edge” over Maurice Jones-Drew.

SMITTY: Both Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew have plenty of skill, but MJD has some milage concerns, and D-Mac can’t stay on the field. If either back was given starter carries, they might actually surprise, but counting on either rusher as anything more than a high-upside RB3/4 would be a mistake. NEWS: Maurice Jones-Drew the starter in Oakland?

According to Vic Tafur on Twitter, it would be surprising if Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew wasn’t the RB1 in Oakland entering 2014.

SMITTY: While this is almost a situation we’d recommend staying away from entirely, Maurice Jones-Drew could make for a decent flex-type player in 2014 if you can get him cheap enough. His ADP is somewhere near the 7th, while Darren McFadden’s is near the 8th. Both aren’t crazy-high, but that doesn’t make it a predictable situation, that’s for sure. If forced to predict value here, I say MJD – for now.
