NEWS: CJ Spiller resigning a priority for Buffalo this off-season?

SMITTY: Word is the Bills ‘hope’ to resign CJ Spiller, so I’m not so sure he will be labeled, or considered, a ‘priority’. He is a very talented rusher, we love the guy here at STARTERS, but even we can admit trusting him as the starter would be too risky for any team. Instead, he should be put in a situation where the team can use him like Darren Sproles is used in Philly, or even Gio Bernard in Cincy. Gio can still be a stud in this league if used properly, and yes, that allows Jeremy Hill to still be a stud as well. Usage is key with players like Spiller and Gio

NEWS: LeVeon Bell suffers hyperextended knee in Week 17; Steelers holding breath.

SMITTY: Bell was hit low, but jogged off the field after. He was limping, though, and the Steelers are anxiously awaiting news later today on the knee. We will keep you posted, as an ACL tear, or something severe, would clearly impact his 2015 value. Early reports suggest that there is no structural damage, which is a great sign thus far. Stay tuned.

NEWS: Julian Edelman and LaGarrette Blount could sit Week 17?

SMITTY: For now, fantasy owners better plan to be without both players. Of course, we will have updates as we head into kickoff. Also note, Tom Brady could just play one half in this one, that’s coming from several sources, but all of course is speculation. This is the downside of playing through Week 17, something we advise against. Looking for Week 17 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Josh Gordon suspended for Week 17 by the Browns.

SMITTY: It looks like this was for violating team rules. He is on the suspended list due to failing to show up for the team’s Saturday walk-through. Expect the Browns to shop the ultra-talented receiver this off-season, as many expect that he won’t be in Cleveland in 2015. Looking for Week 17 Power Rankings?

NEWS: AJ Green (biceps) probable for Week 17.

SMITTY: He is practicing fully and is a go for Week 17. This is great news for those who made it through last week with the stud banged up. Looking for Week 17 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Steven Jackson (quad) not expected to play Week 17; Devonta Freeman show scheduled for Week 17?

UPDATE: Recent reports suggest that Jacquizz Rodgers will start Week 17, but many believe that he will split the carries with Devonta Freeman. Keep in mind there is risk in starting either rusher, and the team could lean on the hot hand in Week 17. That said, everything we said below applies, as Freeman is a super sleeper of the future, but as this recent report suggests, the Falcons are very capable of mishandling the situation and wasting Freeman’s talents. Start either rusher at your own risk in Week 17, but we sure hope we see Freeman get his chance to get starter carries so that he can prove that he is a special talent that has been trapped in a situation where he has not been used properly. PREVIOUS UPDATE: Devonta Freeman was one of our breakout candidates this year, and unfortunately, the Falcons failed to utilize his talents. This is a complete oversight on their part, and we are hoping Freeman gets enough work in Week 17 to prove us right. He is a dynamic rusher with tons of RB2 upside if given the carries. If you need a secret weapon of a flex in Week 17, this might be your guy. Be certain to check back on Steven Jackson’s status heading into Week 17, but if S-Jax sits, and if Atlanta is smart, they will unleash the player we had hoped to see all season long. NEWS: TY Hilton now looking like a better shot to play Week 17?

SMITTY: This is tipping back in the right direction for TY Hilton owners, as he was looking very iffy to play Week 17 earlier in the week. Still, you have to wonder how much he will play, or for how long. The Colts have made it clear that they won’t bench their starters in Week 17, as they want to gain some confidence heading into the playoffs, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the starters will play the entire game either. It’s risky playing Week 17 in fantasy football, that’s why we recommend all leagues have their fantasy championship in Week 16. However, we are here to support all leagues and types, but just know that Hilton is almost impossible to sit as a fantasy wR2 if playing, but comes with risk. Also, if you need a WR3 or WR4, Donte Moncrief remains a high-risk/super-high-reward play in Week 17 (even after last week’s huge letdown, which was not Moncrief’s fault). NEWS: Dwayne Allen trending to sit Week 17; Coby Fleener a sleeper start of the week at TE?

SMITTY: Nothing is official, but it’s looking like Dwayne Allen is trending to sit Week 17, which would make Coby Fleener a very solid TE play in Week 17. The thinking here is that the Colts will look to get Allen healthy for the playoff battle, and it’s logical. Stay tuned, this could certainly change, but even if he plays, he could play a little, so regardless Fleener is a nice play in a week where big name players aren’t necessarily a lock to produce. While on the topic of the Colts, TY Hilton is back at practice and looking more likely to play Week 17; however, he could play a little or a lot, that’s a risky thing to predict given the Colts will also want to rest Hilton for the playoffs. While he burned many fantasy owners last week (not his fault given how Luck played in Week 16), Donte Moncrief has strong fantasy WR3-type appeal heading into Week 17. Stay tuned on both of these guys! Looking for Week 17 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Aaron Rodgers (calf) expected to play Week 17?

SMITTY: He practiced today. It wasn’t full-go, but he appears on his way to playing, and Green Bay will be playing for a first-round bye, so he is a safe play if he is in fact a go, and that’s good for all Packer fantasy players. Stay tuned. Looking for Week 17 Power Rankings?

NEWS: AJ Green injures arm in Week 16; his week 17 availability in doubt?

UPDATE: Updating the report below, AJ Green has indicated that he plans to play Week 17. Early reports are that he has no structural damage, only swelling. Stay tuned for more! Looking for Week 17 Power Rankings?

PREVIOUS UPDATE: He exited the game in the first quarter and missed a decent portion of that first quarter. He returned, but clearly wasn’t 100 percent, and he almost looked like a decoy at times. He couldn’t separate from defenders, or fight for jump balls. It could be a bicep injury, or an elbow injury, it’s tough to say for sure, but he had a wrap on his bicep when he re-entered the game. Green let fantasy owners down in a major way tonight, as most play their fantasy football championship here in Week 16. The massive disappointment makes him a solid buy-low idea in dynasty, though, so jump on our forums and talk dynasty trade ideas if you have Green. If you play your fantasy championship in Week 17, stay tuned for more info on his Week 17 availability. If he sat, Mohamad Sanu would likely return to excellent WR3-type status.
