NEWS: Calvin Johnson will definitely return after the Lions Week 9 bye?

SMITTY: According to Tory Petry, a Detroit Lions reporter, Lions WR Calvin Johnson will “definitely” return to the field after the Lions’ Week 9 bye. As we recommend via our Buy-Low/Sell-High Article this week, consider selling high on Golden Tate now. It’s not that we don’t believe in him, he can still play well, but his value will never be higher than it is right now, and that kind of extra value can do a lot for your team if it’s in need of a spark! NEWS: Jordan Cameron (concussion) could be out for more than one game?

SMITTY: Not good. Keep in mind that Jordan Cameron has had three concussions since 2012 and has missed significant time because of them. We will keep you posted, but it looks like his owners will be without his services in Week 9. Looking for Week 9 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Theo Riddick to be used with Reggie Bush moving forward?

SMITTY: Theo Riddick has been a player we’ve liked a lot for a while now, and it’s nice to see him finally get a chance. It’s tough to say how good he can be splitting time with Reggie Bush, who both already share time with Joique Bell, but if Bush can’t stay healthy, watch out. Riddick is a top-five pick-up heading into Week 9 Add/Drops. Looking for Week 9 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Tony Romo suffers back contusion; a concern for Week 9 against AZ?

SMITTY: Tony Romo left the game on Monday night and missed two possessions, but he later returned in the 4th quarter, but was clearly bothered by his back. He was sacked upon his return and fumbled, and of course the Cowboys suffered a loss. We will keep you posted on his back heading into a tough Week 9 against a mean Cardinals’ defense. NEWS: Doug Martin is expendable now that Charles Sims (ankle) is back this week?

SMITTY: There is a lot of speculation surrounding this situation. Some sources are reporting that the Bucs’ organization is open to trading Doug Martin due to the fact that Charles Sims (ankle) is back in Week 9. It’s an interesting take considering Tuesday’s trade deadline is approaching, but with Martin not playing well, and given he can’t stay healthy, it is a bit tough imagining a team making a move for him. He is tremendously talented, but health is a real concern. Charles Sims is a must-add this week, as the team is fully expected to give him some work right out of the gate. He could be the starter soon, if not right away, or he could be shoved right into a RBBC with Martin and Bobby Rainey — the situation is still a bit cloudy, so know that. He is a must-add, though, just in case this shapes out like some close to the situation are expecting. Be sure to sign-up for our Smart Alerts for more info on players like this.

NEWS: Week 8 Monday Night Inactives: Robert Griffin III, Aldrich Robinson

SMITTY: It’s sounding more and more likely that Robert Griffin III will try and return in Week 9, but much of that will depend upon how well Colt McCoy performs in this one. Expect to see a whole lot of Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray in this one. Terrance Williams is also a very strong fantasy WR3-play in this one. As for those Washington players, Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson are strong WR3 plays this week, and Jordan Reed remains a low-end TE1 for as long as he is on the field. News: 10/26 According to NFL Newtwork’s Stacey Dales, AJ Green will “NOT” play in Week 8, although he is “very close.” She also tweeted this: “I’m told 70-30″ for Week 9.
Take: We will keep you posted all next week, and be sure to be signed up for our Smart Alerts.

News: 10/26 According to the Bills on Twitter, Anthony Dixon will start Week 8 against NYJ.
Take: Don’t be surprised if either Dixon or Bryce Brown lead the team in carries this week. Most all of us knew that Jerick McKinnon should have been starting for MIN over Asiata, yet it took MIN a while to turn to McKinnon. Brown is the better back, but that doesn’t mean it will all translate right away. Both Dixon and Brown have equal parts ‘upside’ and ‘risk’ entering Week 8.

News: 10/26 Lorenzo Taliaferro is reportedly going to get some goal-line in Week 8 now that Bernard Pierce is a healthy scratch.
Take: He is a play for those desperate with injuries, but that’s about it. For now. This is Forsett’s team right now, at least in terms of the running back production.

News: 10/26 Bishop Sankey is expected to start Week 8 game against HOU.
Take: Shonn Greene (hamstring) is active, though, despite his recent arrest, but Sankey should have a nice outing in Week 8!

News: 10/26 Vincent Jackson is active for Week 8 against MIN.
Take: He is a strong WR3 or even low-end WR2 whenever on the field. Also, there are some rumors that teams like the Eagles, Patriots, and Seahawks are calling Tampa Bay about the receiver. We will keep you updated on this as news develops heading into Tuesday’s trade deadline.

News: 10/26 Storm Johnson is a healthy scratch for Week 8 against MIA.
Take: Gerhart is back, but D-Robinson should be the primary ball carrier in this one.

News: 10/26 Shane Vereen (illness) is active for Week 8 against CHI.
Take: He is a fine flex/RB3 this week, and solid low-end RB2 in larger leagues.

News: 10/26 Bernard Pierce is a healthy scratch for Week 8 against CIN.
Take: It should be the Justin Forsett Show in Week 8. The runner is a low-end RB2, or fine flex-play, this week, no question.

News: 10/26 ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is predicting that Darren Sproles (knee) will be inactive against AZ.
Take: Great news for LeSean McCoy owners. Sproles owners better get the little guy out of line-ups!

News: 10/26 Giovani Bernard is active for Week 8 against BAL.
Take: As expected… We still love Gio moving forward. He has RB1 dynasty upside, no doubt!

News: 10/26 Eric Decker (hamstring) is active for Week 8 against BUF.
Take: He is a WR3 this week.

News: 10/26 According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Seahawks have “grown tired” of Marshawn Lynch’s “ways,” and the rusher is not expected back in 2015.
Take: This is exactly what Christine Michael owners wanted to hear, although, it would be nice to see the Seahawks showcase the runner a touch in order to give him a sense of ‘upside’ for next season. It’s only Week 8, so there is still a ton of time to see Michael get some run, and all it will take is a week or two, even if it’s just a string of change-of-pace work. Somehow, though, these runners (in these situations) find ways to start Week 16 and 17, so we shall see there… We, Michael supporters, all knew there was a chance we’d see very little from Michael this season, making his big ‘potential’ season in 2015. We also knew that there was some risk in counting on Michael as a future stud, but no one should have invested at a high price. Michael has MONSTER upside, we just hope he gets a fair shot to start in Seattle in 2015, and things seem to be heading in that direction – for now

News: 10/26 The Colts are reportedly “leaning toward sitting” Trent Richardson (hamstring) for Week 8 against PIT.
Take: It’s going to be the Ahmad Bradshaw Show in Week 8, something that was likely regardless of T-Rich’s status.

News: 10/26 UPDATE: Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush and Eric Ebron are officially inactive for Week 8 in London.
News: 10/26 Calvin Johnson is not expected to play in Week 8; Reggie Bush is doubtful with an ankle injury.
Take: The thinking here is that with the Lions having a Week 9 bye, Calvin Johnson will have two weeks to rest up if the team sits him in London. This particular game kicks off at 9:30am EST, which gives fantasy owners a jump on making any kind of decision should things change. For now, though, Calvin Johnson is fully expected to sit, and Bush is also likely out. This makes both Golden Tate and Joique Bell fine plays in Week 8!

News: 10/26 AJ Green, according to the NFL Network and other sources, will not play in Week 8 against BAL due to his toe.
Take: Stay all over both our News Wire and our Smart Alerts in case something changes, but we are not expecting Green to play in this one.

News: 10/26 Dez Bryant (shoulder) is probable for Week 8 against WAS; Tony Romo (ribs) is probable.
Take: The receiver is a top 1-4WR play this week, and arguably a top 1-2 overall WR moving forward.

News: 10/26 Percy Harvin is expected to be the Jets’ downfield threat.
Take: It’s tough to say if that will happen this week, as a lot of sources seem cautiously-optimistic about his Week 8 usage. Harvin is the definition of a risky play this week, but could develop into a strong fantasy WR3/flex down the stretch in the coming weeks. If you have a start/sit dilemma that involves Harvin this week, jump on our Forums and get some different takes on the decision!

News: 10/26 Jonas Gray is being called the team’s “big back” heading into this week.
Take: He is a super-high risk play this week, but it wouldn’t be crazy to see him get a TD, and some unexpected usage. That said, it wouldn’t be crazy to see him have zero impact. That’s New England for you. Shane Vereen is a decent fantasy RB2 play this week and “should” get some serious usage in this one. The “should” comes into play because he has been iffy all week with an illness, but most all sources around expect him to roll in this one. Stay on our Smart Alerts just in case news breaks suggesting he could sit.

News: 10/26 Both Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson are ‘out’ for Week 8.
Take: This makes Mark Ingram a very good play in this one, and it also makes Travaris Cadet a sneaky-good RB3/flex play, especially in PPR formats.

News: 10/26 Marquise Goodwin (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 8.
Take: Expect to see a whole lot of Sammy Watkins in this one. The rookie could be a strong fantasy WR2-type play the rest of the way in 2014.

News: 10/26 John Brown (ankle) and Andre Ellington (foot) are both probable for Week 8 against the Eagles.
Take: While Ellington is a must-play, and a top 10RB play at that, John Brown is too hit-and-miss to count on, not unless you are in a super-deep league. He has a bright future, though, and will show flashes of brilliance along the way.

News: 10/26 Martellus Bennett (hamstring) is probable for Week 8.
Take: He is a go and a fine play this week.

News: 10/26 Andre Johnson (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 8.
Take: He is a must-play despite the ankle injury.

News: 10/26 Jimmy Graham (shoulder) is questionable for Week 8.
Take: Unless he suffers a setback in warm-ups, or has and no one is reporting on it yet, he is fully expected to play. Last week he didn’t catch a pass despite playing a decent amount, so there is risk in playing the tight end. However, whenever Jimmy Graham is playing, you almost have to start him. He could play 10 snaps in red zone situations and still catch 2TDs. Stay tuned to both our News Wire and our Smart Alerts in case something changes or develops.

News: 10/26 Travis Kelce (ribs) is probable for Week 8.
Take: Stay on top of our Smart Alerts, but he appears to be a go and is a must-play.

NEWS: Calvin Johnson (questionable) is not expected to play in Week 8; Reggie Bush (ankle) now doubtful.

SMITTY: We have been hearing this for a while now, so we’re simply passing along the reinforcing info on this one whenever it shows its ugly face. His ankle injury clearly is bad and the logic here is that the team will rest both Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush (ankle) this week since the Lions are on a bye in Week 9 (giving both players two weeks to get healthier). Kick off for this game, in London, is at 9:30 AM ET, so stay close to both this news wire and your Smart Alerts for updates on both players. For now, get ready for a whole lot of Golden Tate and Joique Bell, especially with rookie TE Eric Ebron also set to miss Week 8! Looking for Week 8 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Jonas Gray could see an increased role in Week 8?

SMITTY: There are a few sources right now talking up Jonas Gray. No one is predicting amazing things, but what we are hearing is that he is considered the big back on that roster, which could spell goal line work. It could turn into more, it could be nothing. Basically, if you count on Gray this week for whatever reason, realize that using him is the definition of high-risk/reward. Shane Vereen should have a big Week 8, as he is the most dynamic rusher on that New England roster, but stranger things have happened in New England at the position. As for Vereen, he is probable after battling an illness this week — expect him to play unless you soon hear otherwise. Looking for Week 8 Power Rankings?

NEWS: Owen Daniels (knee scope) out indefinitely; get him out of your Week 8 line-ups!

SMITTY: Early word is that this will keep him out a game or so, but it could be longer. We will keep you updated, but for now, the team will turn to rookie Crockett Gillmore. Looking for Week 8 Power Rankings?
